Ireland captain Jason Molins is looking for his
side to pull off another major shock to further
enhance their chances of winning a place in the
National League. Molins led his side to a famous
victory over Surrey last time out and they will
look to do the same to Kepler Wessels' Northamptonshire.
Molins believes Ireland can follow in the footsteps
of the Scottish Saltires and take part more regularly
against first-class county opposition. Victory over
Surrey at Clontarf is the latest in a run of impressive
performances, which included a 10- wicket win over
Zimbabwe in Belfast last June.
Molins, who top scored in Ireland's run chase with
58, said: "It would be great to compete in the National
League. "I think we are more than capable, as we
proved, and beating Surrey certainly won't harm
our credentials. "This win can only raise our profile
and the third-round game should attract lots of
publicity."
Devon are the other side flying the flag for minor
counties and their reward for the narrowest of wins
over Leicestershire is a home date with Yorkshire.
Perhaps the tie of the round sees in-form Lancashire,
who have kicked off their one-day season with four
wins out of four, travelling to Sussex.
Warwickshire host Kent in another intriguing tie
at Edgbaston while last year's beaten finalists
Worcestershire welcome Somerset to New Road. Defending
champions Gloucestershire host a resurgent Hampshire,
Glamorgan travel to Lord's to face Middlesex and
Nottinghamshire entertain Essex to complete the
third-round ties.
