The European Tour is underway and betting
is available on who will win the Order of Merit
for 2004. The early favorite is Padraig Harrington
who has about as much chance of winning this list
as he does of winning a Major anytime soon, ie:
none. We're looking elsewhere for the winner, and
we'd also like a bit of value.
With that in mind our selection is none other than
Sergio Garcia at +2000. 20/1 seems a huge price
for the talented, if annoying golfer, who has won
two tournaments recently and appears to have turned
his game around. He's young and precocious (isn't
that a synonym for incredibly obnoxious? -Ed), and
if he does get his mind right (stop thinking about
Martina and hit the ball already!) he should be
hard to stop in 2004.
Our one concern is that Sergio doesn't play a lot
of torunaments in Europe these days, concentrating
instead on the US PGA.
However, he only needs a few good results in Europe,
including a large win (which seems likely this year)
to be in contention, so a small wager seems in order.
