The biggest race of mid summer. A 1.5 mile race
at Ascot each July bringing together a collection
of the very best three-year olds and upwards.
Probably the biggest example of needing to pick
a top class animal as almost none of the recent
winners ran in a contest of below group two status
in the previous outing.
Look out for how 'Weight for Age' can make a difference.
In late July, three year olds still receive weight
from their elders. This is to take into account
how older horses are more developed and thus stronger
than those born later.
However, top class three-year-olds are often physically
very well developed, sometimes being bigger than
many of the older opponents they may meet and hence
have an advantage.
