The battle for top spot in the Super League regular
season is now a two-horse race according to the
bookies. Leeds opened up a five-point gap at the
top thanks to a 34-6 thrashing of Salford on Friday
but St Helens trimmed that advantage back to three
points courtesy of a thrilling 35-30 success over
Bradford 24 hours later.
Saints also have a game in hand but both sides
have difficult derby clashes this weekend - St Helens
visiting Wigan on Friday while Leeds make the short
trip on the M62 to third-placed Bradford. The Rhinos
are general 4/5 chances to still head the standings
at the end of the season, with Saints a best-priced
6/4 at Skybet (from 9/4).
Bradford are out to 13/2 with Totalbet and they'll
be desperate to close the gap and get back in contention
for top spot with a victory at Odsal. "It raises
the stakes," admitted Bulls coach Brian Noble. "You
don't like the prospect of getting knocked off by
your two biggest rivals. "Playing at home means
a lot to us, it's important that we play well there."
