Betting Overview |
Having finished in third place at the 2002 FIFA
World Cup Korea/Japanä, Turkey also seem a
solid bet to qualify for the finals in Germany,
despite having to swallow the bitter pill of elimination
in the EURO 2004 qualifiers, when Latvia beat them
in the play-offs.
The Turks are determined to reach Germany, where
so many native Turks live and work, but they must
first overcome some tough obstacles. Greece, under
veteran German coach Otto Rehhagel, have already
set their sights on qualification and did what the
Turks couldnt in reaching EURO 2004. They
could make life very difficult for their neighbours.
Its not an easy group, says Rehhagel,
We know that Turkey and Denmark are tough
opponents. Personally speaking, being from Germany,
it would of course be a dream come true if we made
it through to Germany 2006.
Denmark are another team that could stamp their
mark on proceedings. At the last FIFA World Cup,
they beat world champions France and Uruguay, and
with Jon Dahl Tomasson (AC Milan) up front, they
are strong in attack.
His Milan team mate, Ukrainian top striker Andrei
Shevchenko, would also love to make it to at least
one FIFA World Cup, after his team narrowly missed
out on qualifying for the 2002 FIFA World Cup after
losing to Germany in the play-offs. It would also
be a first for Georgia, Albania and Kazakhstan if
any of these long shots were to qualify.
There are two favourites for this group, Turkey are
a best price 13/8
with Capital Sports, while Denmark are 2/1
with Victor Chandler. |
