Spain can be backed with some value at 4/9
with Bet365, while Belgium are a best priced
5/1
with BetDirect - Serbia can be backed at 11/2
with BetDirect also.
While Spain should theoretically have little trouble
qualifying, the tension aroused by their crunch
play-off clash against Norway in the EURO 2004 preliminaries
is a good reminder that even the most talented teams
can be vulnerable. Surely Spain know that as well
as any, and Iñaki Sáez's men will
have to watch their step on the road to the 2006
FIFA World Cup Germany.
Out to trip them up will be old rivals Belgium and
Serbia & Montenegro, the latter previously playing
under the name of Yugoslavia. Neither of the two
sides think first place is beyond them, and though
they will admit that Spain are the best team, both
sides are experience enough to know what a string
of good results can do.
Despite failing to qualify the 2004 European Championships,
Bosnia-Herzegovina are still generally regarded
as genuine dark horses. The same can not really
be said for Lithuania and San Marino.
The Lithuanians managed to draw with Germany in
the last year, but the result turned out to be nothing
more than a blip as they were unsuccessful in their
attempt to make EURO 2004. Minnows San Marino are
expected to have an uphill struggle to get a single
positive result out of this preliminary group phase.
