Italy are a best price 2/5
with bet365, while Norway are an attractive
7/1
with Victor Chandler. Scotland are a best priced
12/1
with Capital Sports. As usual, the highly respected
Italians are clear favourites to finish top of this
six team group. The Azzurri continue to be one of
the most talented and determined teams in the world,
and only a surprisingly strong run by other sides
in the group is likely to challenge them in the
long term.
Slovenia reached the last finals after eliminating
Romania in the European Zone play-offs, though how
they will perform at the highest levels without
the retired Zlatko Zahovic is a major question mark.
Scotland national coach Berti Vogts is confident
that his young team will have learned enough in
falling in the EURO 2004 play-offs to make them
more competitive on the international level.
Norway will be up against it once again when they
face Italy, having narrowly lost out to the Italians
at both the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups, before
pulling off a 1-0 victory in 2000.
Under new coach Age Hareide, the Scandinavians
will be going full steam ahead for qualification.
Belarus plan to mount their qualifying campaign
with a team consisting of several players from its
current U-21 squad. Moldova are no doubt simply
hoping to gain international football experience.
